This is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States .It is nicknamed the mother of presidents because eight leaders were born here. The state symbols include the American Dogwood flower and the dogwood tree. It was named after Queen Elizabeth of England, the Virgin Queen.
It has ten large cities and has a population of 8,382,993 people by the last census. It is considered the birthplace of America and was the most populous state until New York and California surpassed it. It has sixteen state parks and is considered to be one of the founding American states. The first settlements were started there and the first instances of slavery in America were also recorded in Virginia. Over the years Virginia has had three capital cities which are Jamestown, Williamsburg and Richmond.
There is a lot of history surrounding Virginia for one, the American Revolution came to an end when the British General Cornwallis surrendered in Yorktown, Virginia. Historically there have been more battles fought in Virginia than in any other state. The state of Virginia was the first to elect a black governor by the name of Lawrence Douglas Wilder. It is home to the largest office building in the world.
