Summer vacation travel season is just around the corner and will be here before you know it. One popular state destination for summer travelers to the state of Virginia. Located on the east coast and situated in between the states of North Carolina and Delaware, Virginia is the dividing line between North and South with characteristics of both blending into the state.
I have fond memories of vacationing in Virginia as a child. There are many great stops for tourists in the state from the coastal beaches on the eastern part of the state to the beautiful mountain regions in the West. The state offer something for everyone. Some of my favorite attractions are the theme parks.
One such theme park is King’s Dominion. I believe it was one of the first theme parks I ever visited as a child with my parents, and the memories of those trips remains strong today. My first roller coaster ride occurred there on the Scooby Doo roller coaster. The roller coaster is still there today, but it is nothing like the faster and more smooth riding coasters that are so popular among roller coaster enthusiasts today. After riding the Scooby Doo roller coaster you knew it. It was a rough ride if you didn’t have a few sore muscles afterwards, consider yourself lucky.
Sadly, as I’ve aged, my interest in theme parks has faded and has been replaced with more mature pursuits. For those in the same boat as me, Williamsburg Virginia is a popular stop. Williamsburg is basically a nonstop reenactment of how life used to be during colonial times. Sure, it’s your typical tourist trap, but it does have a certain charm that appeals to the older crowd.
These are but two of the many attractions of Virginia has to offer. If you’re considering a vacation to the state in the future, consider checking these two places out in addition to any others you may be consider.
