Red Cross in critical need of donations after winter weather

Following several rounds of severe winter weather, the American Red Cross urges eligible blood and platelet donors to restock shelves.

Since Dec. 1, 2016, about 300 blood drives across 27 states have been forced to cancel due to inclement weather, resulting in more than 10,500 donations going uncollected, according to a news release from the organization.

Here are some opportunities for Lynchburg area residents to donate:

> Amherst, noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Clifford Baptist Church, 635 Fletchers Level Road, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Sweet Briar College, 123 Power Plant Circle

> Forest, 1 to 6 p.m. today at Freedom Baptist Church, 1595 Turkey Foot Road

> Madison Heights, 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, 4246 South Amherst Highway

> Naruna, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at William Campbell High School, 474 William Campbell Drive

> Bedford, noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at Main Street United Methodist Church, 212 E. Main St.
