Man Uninjured After Pickup Overturns in Amherst County

A Toyota pickup slid down an embankment and overturned just after 9 p.m. Thursday in rural Amherst County.

The male driver of the pickup swerved to avoid a deer, Virginia State Police Trooper Travis Lewis said, when he ran off Matohe Road less than one mile west of its intersection with Father Judge Road. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, walked away from the incident without injury, Lewis said.

Crews continued to work to recover the pickup from the wooded hillside at 9:30 p.m. The wreck still was under investigation, Lewis said, but charges against the driver are unlikely.
