Fast Facts About Virginia

As I was helping my son study for school last year, I realized there was so much I didn’t know about my own country. As a result, I resolved to travel more, learn more and enjoy the country of my birth. Virginia seemed like a great first choice, because it is close to my home state of North Carolina.

I started to research Virginia for a spring visit with my family. I found some really interesting facts about the state that I never knew before!

1. There’s wild horses.

Not only is the state home to wild horses, but there is an annual swim where the animals make their way from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island. Once they arrive at their destination, the horses are auctioned off to make money for the fire department.

2. There have been multiple capital cities.

There have been THREE capitals in Virginia. They include Richmond, Williamsburg and Jamestown.

3. It’s know as the “Internet Capital.”

More than half of Internet traffic goes through Virginia’s data centers.

There is a lot to see and do in Virginia, including heading to its theme parks. We are excited for our visit in just a few short months!
