Part of McLennan County, Waco is quite the city. It’s not far from both Austin and Dallas, perhaps being one of the reasons it holds the nickname ‘Heart of Texas.’ If you have ever lived in Texas, you have heard the song ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas.’ Waco is right smack dab in the middle, although a little to the east, and there are some great things to do there.
Cameron Park and Cameron Park Zoo are two of the main attractions in Waco. Let’s take a look at the zoo first. Its location is 1701 North 4th Street, and it is a great place for families to visit. People say that the zoo is good for about a two hour visit. At larger zoos, you can spend all day, but in that Texas heat? Cameron Park Zoo makes for a nice zoo trip, spending a moderate amount of time out there in the sun.
Of course you might also want to spend some time at Cameron Park in general. Perhaps you can find a shade tree and enjoy a family picnic. Located on Emmons Cliff Drive, Cameron Park is surrounded by two rivers and is said in the reviews to be a historic park. It is clean, peaceful and a treasure in Waco that people call Texas paradise. You can enjoy great views while there and spend some relaxing time with the family.
Waco Mammoth National Monument is located at 6220 Steinbeck Bend Drive, and it is a one of a kind adventure according to reviews. First, this site is the only one in the entire country that features the type of mammoth that is there. People say you can expect the tour to last about an hour. You are going to see that the mammoths are actually still in the ground. It’s an educational thing to do in Waco that visitors say is quite interesting.
Then there is the Mayborn Museum Complex, which is located at 1300 South University Parks Drive. It is said to be especially great for the kids. There are many interactive exhibits, and it should be mentioned that its the younger kids that will have the most fun. It’s a great stop for families with younger kids. Some people do mention a sports museum and a Titanic exhibit, which leads me to believe that the exhibits change over time.
Which Waco attractions are you going to check out as you and your family arrive in the Heart of Texas? There’s so much to see and do while you’re in Waco. Have a wonderful time exploring the city, and you can be rest assured that you will enjoy your vacation.
